NEW DELHI - 18th July: As per decision taken by the All India Railwaymen's Federation(AIRF), the entire Technical Staff — right from Helper, Technician to Senior Subordinate Engineers, belonging to all the disciplines of the Railways, viz Electrical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering and S&T etc., etc., staged a day-long dharna and demonstration under the banner of All India Railwaymen’s Federations affiliates at all the branches all over the Indian Railways, including Production Units on the clarion call of AIRF, demanding immediate redressaI of long pending genuine major demands of the Technical Categories of staff, which include merger of Technician II & I in Grade Pay of Rs.2800, replacement of Rs.4600 with GP Rs.4800 in case of Senior Subordinate Engineers. upgradation of adequate apex level Group 'C’ posts to Group ‘B’, abolition of GP Rs.2000 from MACP Scheme and provision of Grade Pay in promotional hierarchy, improvement in working conditions and working hours, stop arbitrary surrender of posts, outsourcing and privatization and filling-up of all the vacant posts in these categories etc., were highlighted in these agitational programmes.
Briefing about the programme, General Secretary, All India Railwaymen’s Federation, Shri Shiva Gopal Mishra, stated that since the already agreed upon demands of the above mentioned categories are not being fulfilled despite lapse of substantial time, there was no option left but to resort lo country wide agitation programme to highlight the grievances of vulnerable Technical Categories of Staff, and as such Working Committee of AIRF had decided to stage one-day dharna and demonstration at all the branches of AIRF affiliates on 18.07.2012.
As per reports being received from different parts of the country, today’s Action Programme has been a grand success, and it is hoped that the Railway Ministry will take it with all seriousness to resolve these issues without further loss of time, he added Shri Mishra informed that he himself along with Shri Rakhal Das Gupta, Working President AIRE, has also met with the Member Staff and Member Mechanical, Railway Board and apprised them of the state of affairs and asked them to intervene immediately to resolve the issues agitating minds of theTechnical Staff and Subordinate Engineers.
