Cabinet sub-committee to look into demands of INTUC
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has agreed to constitute a Cabinet Sub-Committee to look into the charter of demands submitted by the trade unions, Indian National Trade Unions Congress (INTUC) NationalPresident Dr G Sanjeeva Reddy said here today.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Reddy said that he held discussions with the Prime Minister on, April 9 in New Delhi and urged him to look into the problems of working class.
The Prime Minister will constitute the sub committee with full powers in this month to look into the charter of demands by the trade unions he said.
In view of the Prime Minister's assurance, the proposed three- day all India strike proposed by all the trade unions in November has been postponed.
He said the trade unions had submitted a charter of ten demands which include minimum wage to industrial workers Rs 10,000 per month, pensions to all unorganised and organised sectors and disinvestment of profit making public sector undertakings and scrap the contract system in the country.
The Prime Minister also agreed to look into the demand of the trade unions on the constitution of the Seventh Pay Commission for the central Government employees.
The wage agreement and pensions scheme for the two lakh steel workers in the country would be finalized before May this year.He said the INTUC opposed the disinvestment in profit making public sector undertakings.
He said the trade unions including INTUC had opposed the privatisation of ore handling complex of the Visakhpatnam port trust.
He welcomed the Andhra Pradesh government for allotting iron ore mines at Warangal, Khammam, and Karimnagar to the Visakhaptnam Steel Plant.
National Secretary of the INTUC Mantri Rajasekhar said with the initiative of the INTUC , the Andhra Pradesh government had allotted the iron ore mines to the Steel Plant and also approached the Central government and the State Governments of Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Mahdya Pradesh to allot iron ore mines to Visakhapatnam Steel Plant(VSP).
